How To Give
Gifts to the Brown Annual Fund directly support the Plan for Academic Enrichment.During the 2007-2008 academic year, alumni, alumnae, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends provided funding for many projects. For example:
13 gifts of $25 (325)
continued an academic journal subscription at the Library.
60 gifts of $50 ($3,000)
enabled an undergraduate teaching and research award (UTRA) to a student whose work may lead to publishable results that will help simplify the genetic tests performed on patients to detect Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular and autoimmune diseases as well as different types of cancers.
340 gifts of $75 ($25,500)
provided a need-based Brown Scholarship award for a first-year student.
80 gifts of $100 ($8,000)
made a subscription to a digital collection of dissertations available.
20 gifts of $250 ($5,000)
provided a Student Technology Assistant for faculty in the creation of digital course material.
31 gifts of $500 ($15,500)
allowed the Library to maintain a holdings management system for its growing collection of electronic journals—which now numbers more than 40,000 titles—making them accessible for teaching and research.
32 gifts of $750 ($24,000)
provided an academic year dissertation fellowship for a graduate student, including stipend, enrollment fee, health services fee, and health insurance.
26 gifts of $1,000 ($26,000)
funded a first-year seminar in history.
8 gifts of $1,500 ($12,000)
supported a group UTRA in which four students created an online museum, Underground Rhode Island; the exhibits display their pioneering investigations into the alternative arts and cultures of Brown’s home state.

provided the salary for an assistant professor.
