Brown Alpert Medical School

Alumni Newsletter

November 25, 2019

Greetings Medical Alumni!

As a very joyful, but busy, time of year approaches, we want to take a minute to catch you up with some things happening at the Warren Alpert Medical School.

Inside Insight
In a new semi-regular feature, we will share student snapshots about what is keeping them busy at the moment. We hope this update from current medical students will bring you back to your years at Brown.

  • First-year medical students are in the middle of the fifth block (out of six) of their first semester. It focuses mainly on genetics in the Scientific Foundations of Medicine course, and inflammation in the General Pathology course. As these students are gradually transitioning from core to more clinically-oriented classes, they are reminded of "just how cool medicine is!"
  • Third-year students in the Primary Care Population Medicine program are wrapping up their longitudinal integrated clerkships and looking forward to a little time off before taking their next two shelf exams in neurology and psychiatry.
  • Fourth-year medical students are in the thick of interview season. They are visiting hospitals all over the country where they applied for residency positions in their specialty of choice.

In Case You Missed It

  • The Medical School launched a new website to align with a wider University effort. There is also a new web presence for Brown's program in Cancer Biology.
  • The BioMed Campaign newsletter that went out recently to the Brown community featured the work of Dr. Megan Ranney, MPH’10 RES’08 in the area of digital health. Check out the video and article here.
