Brown Alpert Medical School

Alumni Newsletter

October 31, 2019

Hello Medical Alumni!

I am Ellen Schulte and am excited to be the new manager of communications and engagement in the Office of Biomedical Advancement at the Warren Alpert Medical School. Hopefully, I will have the chance to meet many of you at future events but in the meantime, you will be hearing from me regularly through this newsletter, which I hope includes some items of interest to you. To catch you up on a few things …

Family Weekend was a success!

The excitement on campus during Family Weekend was palpable as students and families attended faculty forums, panel discussions, and a valuable alumni-student networking event. I thank those of you who attended and offered your expertise. For those who were not able to make it, I hope you'll consider joining us for events like this in the future. Visit our Flickr page to see event photos and our YouTube page to see the White Coat ceremony. Highlights of the video include:

  • Dean Jack A. Elias remarks (at minute 2:35)
  • Student Reflection by Liz Taliaferro MD’20 (at minute 11:00)
  • Charles O.  Cooke, M.D. Distinguished Visiting Lectureship presented by Sutchin R. Patel ’00 MD’04 RES’09 (at minute 24:10)
  • Coating of Students (at minute 39:05)

Reunion is Coming!

We are already looking ahead with great anticipation to the warm, sunny spring days of Reunion Weekend, May 22-24! We obviously welcome all alumni back to campus, but classes ending in 00s and 05s are celebrating milestone years in 2020. We are very excited that this includes the medical school’s first 45th reunion class.

Want to have a recognized role in Reunion Weekend? Please consider volunteering to serve as a class representative. The time commitment for "class reps" is minimal, and you will be:

  • Reconnecting with former classmates and old friends: Attend the weekend’s festivities and encourage others to join you to build on your rekindled connection.
  • Giving Back by Coming Back: Time is a valuable asset you can offer the Brown Medical Alumni Association by volunteering for this important role.
  • Engaging: Stay in touch throughout the planning process and keep fellow alumni up-to-date about the exciting program as it develops as well as the general goings-on at the Warren Alpert Medical School.

Stay in Touch

If you'd like to get involved in a volunteer capacity, have any ideas for what you would like to see in this newsletter, or have questions in general, please feel free to respond to this email or contact me directly.

Best,

Ellen Schulte
