Greetings medical alumni!
Friday, I had the pleasure of celebrating Match Day with nearly 300 students, families and friends of the Brown medical community. At 12 noon, more than 18,000 medical students across the country opened envelopes to find out where they would begin residency training in their chosen specialties.
Match Day is the beginning of a new journey as MDs. Here are some interesting statistics about the class:
- Total of 118 students matched into residency
- 12 students (10%) will stay in Rhode Island for residencey training
- The most common specialty is Internal Medicine matching 14 students (11.8%) - Family Medicine is a close second matching 13 students (11%)

In the weeks leading up to Match Day, we caught up with a few of our soon-to-be physicians about what inspired them to pursue medicine, and some memorable moments and mentors that have shaped them along the way. Check out their stories here.
