Greetings Medical Families!

Though the temperatures and calendar remind us it is still summer, the Medical School has been busy getting ready for the 2020-21 academic year, which starts next week! Though it will look a little different, the rigorous, innovative curriculum Warren Alpert Medical School is known for will continue.

Inside Insight

The information below has been provided by faculty and staff from the Office of Medical Education (OME) and the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and is accurate as of July 30.

  • MD’21 students resumed clinical rotations on May 26 and are fully integrated into their sub-internships and clinical electives. The Career Development Office has been working hard, alongside the Council of Specialty Advisors, to prepare students for the 2020-2021 residency application cycle. Read more.
  • MD’22 students officially started their third year of medical school on June 22 and completed their first clerkships on July 17. Students have been thriving even amidst a global pandemic. Read more.
  • Many MD’23 students have been busy completing their summer research projects and all are gearing up to return to campus on August 5. The Medical School has been working hard to put a thoughtful plan in place for learning during a pandemic. Read more.
  • The MD’24 class list has been finalized and the Medical School is excited to welcome this new cohort of truly exceptional future physicians. Students will start orientation on August 3. Read more.

In Case You Missed It

  • President Paxson’s July 7 letter to our medical students included Brown’s Plan for a Healthy and Safe 2020-21 and confirmed that, assuming public health conditions allow large events to safely take place, Reunion and Commencement Weekend is scheduled for April 30 to May 2, 2021, celebrating the MD graduating classes of 2020 and 2021.
    • OME has assured fourth-year medical students that they are adjusting the curriculum accordingly so all graduation requirements will be completed prior to this earlier-than-usual commencement date. More details to come.
  • On July 21, Judson Brewer, MD, PhD, presented a webinar about mindfulness and other ways health care workers can cope within the scope of the coronavirus pandemic. Watch it here.
