Hello Medical Alumni!
We hope you’ve all been able to relax a bit and enjoy all that summer has to offer. As summer winds down, students at The Warren Alpert Medical School are diving right into their learning and we are developing new ways for you to get involved.
Seeking Leadership for Specialty Groups
The Office of Biomedical Advancement is kicking off a new initiative this fall to help connect our alumni to each other and gather virtually by specialty. Eventually, these bimonthly events will develop based on your needs or how you’d like these to take shape over time. Pediatrics will be the first specialty event near the end of October. The invitation is still to come for that, but in the meantime, if any alum wishes to spearhead the gathering for their specialty, please send an email to Ellen Schulte, manager of communications and engagement.
New Webinar Series to Launch in October
Save the date! Mark Wednesday, October 6, on your calendar as we kick off the first event in a new virtual series, Medicine Today.
Dr. Wafik El-Deiry, Mencoff Family University Professor of Medical Science and director of the Cancer Center at Brown, will host a webinar with new faculty member, Dr. Stephanie Graff, assistant professor of medicine at Brown and director of breast oncology at the Lifespan Cancer Institute. The webinar will highlight the Cancer Center at Brown and the important work Dr. Graff is conducting in breast cancer and patient advocacy. Invitation to come!
Change to Alumni Newsletter Schedule
To avoid cluttering your inbox, we are moving to a bimonthly newsletter schedule. So after next month’s edition of this newsletter, you will receive the next issue in late November. In the intervening months, you’ll be receiving the Brown Alumni Association newsletter electronically, which will include medical news as appropriate. If we have important news to share on our “off” months, we will send a special edition.
