Happy New Year! We hope 2021 is off to a good start for you and your student(s).

Inside Insight
As new undergraduate students in Brown’s Program for Liberal Medical Education (PLME) begin their first on-campus semester this month, we have included a new PLME section to these monthly medical student updates.

  • MD’21: Fourth-year students are wrapping up residency interview season, and will soon move on to the process of formulating their rank lists for MATCH Day, which takes place on March 19. Read more here.
  • MD’22: Third-year students have been staying busy with clinical clerkship rotations on the wards of Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Kent Hospital and various other clinical sites. Read more here.
  • MD’23: Second-year students are approaching the end of hematology, the second-to-last block of the preclinical curriculum. Read more here.
  • MD’24: First-year students recently transitioned into systems-based learning and began the infamous Brain Sciences block. Read more here.
  • PLME: After a planned delay in the academic calendar, many first-year PLMEs have arrived at Brown! Those on-campus and those studying remotely began their first full semester of classes last week. Read more here.

  • Jack A. Elias, MD, senior vice president for health affairs and dean of medicine and biological sciences, recently shared the Dean’s Report, which represents the achievements of the faculty, students, and staff of the Division of Biology and Medicine at Brown University. Read the report here.
  • President Christina H. Paxson provided an update on plans for the 2021 Reunion and Commencement Weekend, April 30-May 2. Read her letter to the Brown community here.
  • Megan Ranney, MD MPH'10 RES'08 was recently recognized by GoLocalProv for her frontline work against COVID-19, her tireless efforts to obtain PPE for those who needed it and her work in digital health. The online news source selected Ranney for their 2020 RI Woman of the Year Award. Read more here.
