Moving Towards a More Equitable Future

Dear Brown alumni,

This fall, campus is buzzing with renewed energy as students have returned to in-person activities. With each new graduating class, our alumni community grows not only in size, but also in diversity, and it is imperative that the programs and opportunities offered to them grow and evolve as well. The Brown Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Relations are committed to creating programs that embrace our growing alumni community’s myriad experiences, identities, and backgrounds.

In defining the path toward this goal, the Brown Alumni Association has published a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Strategic Goals Statement detailing six key areas of focus. We also held a special diversity and inclusion training for Brown volunteers as part of this fall’s Volunteer Immersion Program.

Our efforts in this area were informed by invaluable feedback we received through a survey of our alumni of color, LGBTQ+, and first-generation college constituencies last fall. While survey respondents are proud of their Brown affiliation, a significant number also reported facing circumstances that challenged their feeling of belonging within the Brown community.

Over the coming months, we will provide updates on our progress with these goals. In the meantime, read on for dozens of opportunities to connect with Brown and with each other.

Be well and stay Ever True,

Carlos Lejnieks ’00, President, Brown Alumni Association
Michelle Lough, Interim Co-Vice President for Alumni Relations
