October 2023: Upcoming Events // What’s New // Watch. Listen. Learn. // Brunonians in Focus // Campus News // As Seen on Social // Featured Opportunity

Dear Brown Alumni,

Fall is always a busy time here at Brown, but before I describe some of the exciting things happening on campus right now, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the current conflict in Israel and Palestine. I know that these horrific events have personally affected many members of our alumni community and that they are top of mind to most of us. My hope is that now and in the weeks ahead, our Brown alumni community can be a source of support during this very difficult moment.

One place where many of us find community and comfort is within the arts. This year, there are some really wonderful events happening on campus that I hope may serve, in part, as a way for us to reflect, reconnect, and find inspiration. This week, we’ll celebrate the opening of the new, state-of-the-art Lindemann Performing Arts Center and the launch of IGNITE, a multi-year series of cross-disciplinary projects curated by the Brown Arts Institute. This series will include performances, exhibitions, and events that demonstrate how art can be a powerful vehicle for change. I hope that you’ll have the opportunity to join us for opening weekend or for one of the many arts-inspired events happening on campus over the course of this year.

In conjunction with this year’s celebration of the fundamental role that the arts play in a Brown education, the Office of Alumni Relations is launching “Connecting with the Arts,” a yearlong alumni initiative elevating the arts as a resource and inspiration for creative exploration, innovation, and expression. Our hope is that this initiative will offer multiple entry points for alumni to reflect on and engage with the arts at Brown and in their lives more broadly. While we’re still firming up the details, this series will include events and presentations by and for alumni involved in various fields across the arts and beyond.
